We deal with all pet health concerns in dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice and birds. Please call the surgery on 9890 1728 to make an appointment for a consultation. Our consultations run for 15 minutes and we try to allocate a double appointment (30 minutes) for a first puppy or kitten visit as there is usually much to cover and lots of questions to answer.
While we will try to see clients without an appointment, it is not always possible to rearrange existing consultations to squeeze extras in. On those occasions we may suggest you come back at another time so that we have enough time to devote to your pet’s problem rather than try to rush through the consultation.
Most problems presented to us can be dealt with in-house at Mont Albert Veterinary Surgery. We have anaesthetic and surgery facilities, including an operating microscope and cryosurgery equipment. We also provide x-ray, ultrasound, dentistry and pathology services.
We do some in-house blood and urine testing and also fine-needle aspirate examination of lumps. A commercial pathology laboratory is used for full blood, urine and tissue analysis. .
Occasionally, we need to refer patients to specialists for complex problems. This may be for certain kinds of surgery or to do tests that are not easily done in a general veterinary practice. Some specialists deal with birds or exotic species. See our Links section for more information.
Emergencies
We can usually see emergencies straight away but it’s always a good idea to give us a quick call first so we can do our best to have a vet standing by and have things ready. In rare cases where we feel we may not be able to provide the best quality care for a particular problem, we will suggest that you go to the Animal Emergency Centre (AEC) . We also refer patients to the AEC at times when we are closed. Their phone number is 9803 8122.
Puppies and Kittens
We love to see our clients bringing us a new puppy or kitten (or both!). However, it is always worth your while spending time doing some homework on what to get, where from and what to look for. The internet is a useful source of information but be careful whose advice you trust.
Puppies and kittens have some special requirements that differ from adults and we can provide advice on any aspect of this. See our Info Sheet section for more.
Please remember that the information on our website is of a general nature and should not be used to make important decisions about your pets' health needs. It does not substitute for the advice you would receive during a consultation with a veterinarian.
